| Full name: | Kestrel (Varyna) |
| Most commonly used alias/nickname: | Hates pretty much all nicknames. |
| Player: | Kari |
| Age: | Impossible to calculate. |
| Gender: | Female |
| Physical Appearence Desc.: | Kestrel is an albino Vulcan, which means that in addition to the Vulcan's usual pointy ears and narrow features, she has very very pale skin, light grey eyes, and white hair, which she prefers to keep in a short bob. 5'0", and quite thin, Kestrel's usual attire is very stark, very austere, and very monochrome. |
| Date of Birth: | Also very difficult to calculate, but we're pretty sure it was in early spring. |
| Siblings, Etc., in the Lounge: | Starling - her friend and fellow fugitive ringslider |
| Backstory: | Varyna always had difficulties in her life, due to being an albino and therefore different from everyone else. She was born a few years before the Vulcans made first contact with humans, and that tumultuous meeting didn't help any. Her father was an archaeologist, her mother a diplomat, and they were not married. Since her mother was always away from Vulcan, Varyna's father had custody over the child, and so Varyna grew up on remote mountaintops and in ancient ruins. When her father remarried, when Varyna was about 9 years old (reworking years to human standards), his new wife didn't get along at all with Varyna, and since the girl's mother had just been given a prestigious, and what's more fairly permanent, position as official Ambassador to Earth, it was decided that Varyna should go and live with her mother, at least for a while.
Varyna's trip to Earth was uneventful, except by virtue of its being the first time she had ever been off planet, and the year she spent on Earth was the same - uneventful as far as big things go, but very life-shaping nonetheless. Starting out interacting with humans as a child, basically the first Vulcan child to do so, might have made Varyna a very different person in years to come... had she not been shot in an assassination attempt on her mother (although the gunman, part of one of many anti-Vulcan groups, wasn't exactly averse to shooting any Vulcan). The bullet hit home, and Varyna died there, but in the moment of her death was snatched away by the ringsliders. So, even after her death, her story doesn't finish! Varyna was taken to the Academy, renamed Kestrel and placed in Bird House. She did well in her studies, always seemed like the perfect 'slider. Her speciality was linguistics, with a side of computer sciences, and she was assigned to the Technologocally Advanced section. Kestrel's best friend at the Academy was Starling, a Ringworlder originally whose speciality was, um... interacting with people on an intimate basis. Both were star students and the pride and joy of the Force, but when they achieved their silver rings... they proved that they were anything but. Kestrel and Starling went rogue, as a few 'sliders had done before, although rarely with such success. Most renegade-types are caught in psych tests long before they reach Silver, but Kestrel and Starling made it, and are now on the run, wandering through the multiverse in search of a place to stay where they can avoid those meddlesome kids--excuse me, Ringsliders--forever. As a side note, if the ringsliders had not taken her, Varyna would not have lived very long, anyway. She had a genetic disease, completely uncurable (at least in Star Trek ard), which was part and parcel of her albino-ness. This degenerative disease was basically eating away at her from the inside, and had she been allowed to live a normal life, it wouldn't have gone past about 20 to 25 years. The silver ring the 'sliders gave her is tied to her life, and has been keeping her alive for millenia, even the years spent in realtime, so that she is always dying, but never dead. |
| Personality Desc.: | Kestrel is a cool cookie, very calm - annoyingly so, at times - and calculating. Both her nature as a Vulcan and her nurture in the Academy have resulted in her being, at first glance, a very unemotional, and sometimes downright cold, person. On the other hand, she is capable of great emotion, and when she does feel something, it's strong. She's easily scared, but very skilled at covering. |
| Ard: | Originally Star Trek, then taken to the Academy |
| Likes & dislikes: | Likes:Chess, logic puzzles, the 'natural' ards (such as Middle-Earth), oceans, sailing, black/grey/white and all shades thereof. Dislikes:Ditziness, being afraid, bright colours, sticky things, the fact that she's dying... |
| Vocal range: | Mezzo-soprano to lyric |
| Theme song: | Recently, A Very Unusual Way |
| Anything else: | Albino; dying of an uncurable and so far unkillable disease; rogue ringslider. That about covers it. Oh, and if you call her Kessy, you're taking your life in your hands. |
