Nuclear trees
There is no one near, and I
Am hiding in my own thoughts.
I hear a wolf’s howl
And my heart beats faster.
The sound of flapping wings
And my blood runs cold.
I crawl into myself
Can’t outrun the death fog, but
I will outrun my own fear
But I am trapped within my head
My mind reels knowing the way
To find me here
Locked inside out I am
And understanding nothing of the darkening night
I curl into a foetal ball
Chosen one can sing the other side
But I am inside here for now
Hidden from the lightning plains
I am Me
Alone! And untouched
But I will succeed the night
By crazed delirium hidden shades
That whistle at my door
Shall never come near I…
I am…
Untouched, I survive
And shall spend the day in relief
‘til comes another night
to darken against my hopes
and poleaxe my dreams with
a single blast of the nuclear future
my summer-spring heart knows little of the winter that shall come
but understands that I shall fear the darkening night…
