Munkustrap is, in every production I know of, a silver tabby. He tends to be one of the tallest actors in the cast. In most current productions, he also sings almost all of the songs in the show. Being somewhat of the narrator for Cats, it falls upon Munkustrap to explain what's going on to the audience. He also is a kind of protector for the tribe, especially for the kittens - a popular theory is that he is the leader-to-be, or second-in-command, of the Jellicle tribe, second only to Old Deuteronomy.
Cats he seems to have relationships with, and theories about that relationship:
- Old Deuteronomy -- Possibly father or grandfather, or maybe just mentor/teacher. Munkustrap seems to look up to him.
- Gus - Possible father or grandfather. Or maybe Munkustrap just has a thing for old cats. *g* This one seems to be only my opinion, and I've only seen it in the video.
- Demeter - This one's more official. In the London production and the video (which is based on the London prod), Demeter and Munkustrap are mates, although it's Demeter and Alonzo in all American productions, and I don't know about any others (Norway, Japan, Germany, etc.)
- Alonzo - My opinion, they're best friends, and Alonzo also seems to be Munkustrap's lieutenant.
- Cassandra - This one is only Troika tour, and as far as I know, only my opinion. It stems from the fact that Cassandra was flirting with Munku like MAD in the tour!
- Grizabella - Lots of people think Griz is Munku's mum. I can see this...
- Macavity - Maybe it's just the usual rival thing, but Munkustrap and Macavity get stuck together a lot, in numerous different kinds of relationships - everything from brothers to lovers (yes, lovers... which can a very funny fanfic make) to father and son.
- Rum Tum Tugger - Friendly rivals or brothers - heck, friendly rivals AND brothers! This one is a lot of people's opinion.
