Macavity is described as being 'tall and thin', with a dusty ginger coat, but the Cats costumers
seem to have interpreted 'tall and thin' as tall and buff, while dusty ginger is translated to
red, black, and white striped. He has a very distinctive looking costume, very wild and
electrified, bristling all over.
He has many names, among them the 'Napoleon of Crime' and the 'Hidden Paw'. He is the criminal
mastermind, the Jellicles' arch-enemy, their ancient nemesis... etc, etc, etc. During the Ball he
tries to kidnap Demeter, scares the Jellicles multiple times, and succeeds in kidnapping Old
Deuteronomy (for a while). All in all a nasty, evil kind of guy, unless you're one of those people
who like the 'He didn't really MEAN it!' argument.
Cats he seems to have relationships with, and theories about that relationship:
- Old Deuteronomy
-- Lots of people have speculated that Macavity might be Deuteronomy's son or grandson. Usually
goes along with him being Munkustrap's brother or cousin.
- Munkustrap - There
is definitely some relationship between them, either just enemies because Munkustrap's protective
of the tribe and Macavity is basically evil, or rivals for Demeter, or they're
brothers/cousins/friends/lovers (yes, lovers). There's a very wide range of theories. They're
mostly pretty angsty.
- Demeter - During the
Ball, Macavity tries to kidnap Demeter, and she is also the one cat who can always sense the
Hidden Paw's presence. He obviously terrifies her, and most people believe one of two reasons for
this - the first theory is that she worked for him for a while, then left him for the Jellicles
(and Munkustrap). Along with this theory goes the idea that Demeter and Macavity were mates. The
other popular theory is that he kidnapped her once as a kitten, and has been trying to get her
back.
- Bombalurina -
Bombalurina knows a bit too much about Macavity for my taste. She and Demeter sing his song, after
all, and this leads some to the idea that Bombalurina works for Macavity. Other ideas include him
working for her (see the Millhaven RPG, for one), their being mates or having been mates in
the past, Bombalurina's being his sister, or just being protective of her friend/sister Demeter.

Macavity Photo Gallery:
I will eventually put up thumbnails of each of these pics. For now... just click on the links to see each image. And feel free to take and use these pictures. I used to say 'please don't steal', but as one visitor pointed out, they're not mine in the first place, so I don't know what I was thinking. Sharing is caring and all that.
- Super cool Macavity. He
looks like he belongs in Starlight Express. Bryn Walters, video.
- Much like the first, but
lighter blue. Good pic. Bryn Walters, video.

whom I suspect is OLC.

full-body backstage image of Karl Warden, from the Troika tour. I love this pic.
- Pretty fuzzy, but hey. Macavity
fighting Munkustrap. Bryn Walters, video.
- Better, but a funny angle. Bryn
Walters, video.
- Still fuzzy, but a little
better. Good shot for costumers. Bryn Walters, video.

previous picture, but different angle and lighting. Bryn Walters, video.
