Electra

'--With book, and with bell?'

  Electra is a chorus cat, one of the kittens, and is not in every production. In fact, I've only seen her in London and in the video (which is based on the London production). In both of these productions, her costume is one of the few (I think possibly the only) queen's costumes without the white bib. Dark red/brown with a sort of hatching pattern, I think it's absolutely beautiful myself. Her face makeup is very light, hardly anything at all really, and she seems more bristly than fluffy.
Electra's personality is very much open to debate - I have seen so many different fan interpretations, and all of them seem totally plausible. The only real canon is that she's a kitten, but not, perhaps, as light-hearted as Etcetera. She does squeal over the Rum Tum Tugger like the rest of them do, but in general seems a bit more serious, a little more responsible and mature than her friends. Certainly more so than Etcetera, the kitten she usually gets paired with as best friends.

Cats she seems to have relationships with, and theories about that relationship:

  • Jellylorum - A possible mother, or at least mother figure, though really no more or less than the other kittens.

  • Jennyanydots - Another possible mother. Still, nothing here except the fact that Jenny could be a mother to any of the kits.

  • Etcetera - Many people seem to think, and I must confess that I agree with them, that Electra and Etcetera are closer pals than the other kittens. Perhaps it's because they are the two 'chorus cat' female kittens, whereas Victoria and Jemima/Sillabub have larger roles.

  • Tumblebrutus - Often gets paired with Electra romantically. I guess it makes sense, but I'm not too fond of pairing off the kittens.

  • Demeter - I think this one's just me. But it's Demeter and Electra's costumes that leads to this speculation as to sisterhood or, even, mother-daughter?
